A grandmother's dilemma...
"Lois", age 66, came to CAP when she was faced with losing her housing due to rent increases. She is raising her 9 year old granddaughter and is on a fixed income. This was the first time she had to ask for help and it wasn't easy for her to do, but she has her granddaughter depending on her. Lois had found a place to move to that she could afford on her income but she could not come up with the deposits required to move in. Faced with the choice of living in her car or asking for help she came to us and we were able to assist her with those deposits.
On occasion, Lois needs a little extra help with her food budget and is able to access our commodities to make her budget stretch to meet a growing child's needs. Lois and her granddaughter are now safely housed and doing well. Sometimes our neighbors need just a little help to maintain safe and stable housing and have enough healthy, nutritious food.
